The jock

I finally got around to taking Corbin's 9 month pictures. He is wearing the famous letterman jacket that all my brothers wore growing up. Sorry there are so many pictures...I had a hard time deciding which ones to post :) If you enlarge the last pic, you will see there is a nice bit of drool hanging off Corbin's lip.

a little help

Most of you know that I teach the 3 years old class (the sunbeams) in church. I have discovered the BEST website for help with the lessons each week (especially since they just changed the class time from 40 to 50 minutes...that is a long time to keep 3 year olds entertained). I check this website each week, because it is so helpful. It has ideas for games, treats, stories, and pictures you can print for the kids to color.

9 months

Today Corbin is 9 months old. Here are some of the things he has learned to do this last month.
* says mamamama
* says dadadada
* pulls to a stand
* he can hold his bottle for an entire feeding
* turns the pages while we read a book
* he now sits up during bath time
* he sits in the front of the grocery cart like a big boy
* he loves to pull all the dvds off their shelf

I am sure there are many more things he has learned this month, but that is all I can think of right now.

Oh, and just so you all know, Corbin's scan is scheduled for the morning of May 6. It is a 90 min. procedure that he will be sedated for (which makes sense, considering he was seriously freaking out while we held him still for the 15 minute ultrasound). The crappiest part is that he can't eat anything after midnight, so he is going to be one mad/sad/crying baby that morning :(

Corbin is usually an awesome eater, and will gobble up anything I give him. The other day he did not want to eat what I was giving him (I think it was turkey and rice...I can't remember). However, as soon as I pulled out the cheerios, he was all smiles.

Here's the skinny

I took Corbin in today for another ultrasound on his kidney. The urologist says that the swelling hasn't gone down the way it should have over the last 6 months. So now Corbin gets to have more tests done on him. I have to call tomorrow to set up another ultrasound, and something called a renal scan, which includes a catheter and an iv. Fun stuff. The renal scan should help to show if there is any sort of blockage or kink in the ureter, which may require surgery.

On a brighter note, Corbin now rides in style in his big boy carseat. He had so much fun playing with it, while we read the installation instructions. What a little monkey.

Ribalicious

We had ribs for dinner tonight. They were amazing!! We totally loved them. I got the recipe from this great crockpotting blog.

Crock pot Korean Ribs

The Ingredients.
--package of beef short ribs (I used boneless. They are cheaper, and I kind of get grossed out eating food right off the bone)
--3/4 cup soy sauce (the original recipe calls for 1 cup)
--1 cup brown sugar
--3 whole jalapeno peppers (original calls for 5, don't worry, they don't make the dish spicy at all)
--1/2 cup water

The Directions
Place ribs in crock pot, then put the soy sauce, water and brown sugar on top, followed by the WHOLE (don't cut them!) jalapenos on top. I cooked mine on low for 6 hours, but if yours are frozen or are bone-in, then they will obviously need to cook longer.

Mama's little helper

I was doing the dishes today, and Corbin decided that he wanted to help out. What a smart kid. Not quite 9 months old, and he is already helping out around the house.

Corbin got really mad when I finally finshed up the dishes and put the spoons he was playing with into the dishwasher. Luckily, I found another toy to distract him.

awakenings

Clark and I watched a really cool movie last night called, "Awakenings." Neither of us had heard of it, but it was on tv, so we decided to give it a try. It is based on a true story about these people who are basically vegetables, and the doctor (Robin Williams) decides to try out a new drug to see if it will wake them up. Robert DeNiro plays one of the patients, and I thought that he did an amazing job!

chatter

Sorry for the shaky camera. :)

mamamama

In the last couple of weeks, Corbin has started saying, "mamamama" when he cries. I don't really think he knows that is my name. But it is still fun to hear.

holy tuna cakes batman!!

We had tuna cakes for dinner. They were surprisingly good. I got the recipe from kraftfoods.com. I added a little green onion, left out the relish, and halved the recipe. It was the perfect amount of food for me and Clark. The only problem I had, was that the cakes really stuck to my pan. So I wonder if it would be better to use oil next time, instead of Pam. Or maybe I just need to use more Pam.

Prep Time:10 min

Total Time:26 min

Makes:6 servings, two tuna cakes each

2 cans (6 oz. each) light tuna in water, drained, flaked
1 pkg. (6 oz.) STOVE TOP Stuffing Mix for Chicken
1 cup KRAFT Shredded Mild Cheddar Cheese
1/2 cup shredded carrots
1/3 cup KRAFT Mayo Real Mayonnaise
2 Tbsp. CLAUSSEN Sweet Pickle Relish
3/4 cup water

MIX all ingredients. Cover and refrigerate 10 min.

HEAT large nonstick skillet sprayed with cooking spray on medium heat. For each tuna cake, shape 1/3 cup lightly packed tuna mixture into patty. Add patties to skillet in batches.

COOK 3 min. on each side or until golden brown on both sides, turning over carefully.

Substitute
Substitute 1 cup KRAFT Shredded Low-Moisture Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese, 1/2 cup chopped green onions and 1 Tbsp. lemon juice for the Cheddar cheese, carrots and pickle relish.
How to Prevent Fish Cakes from Falling Apart
Shape patties as directed; cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour to help firm them up before cooking.

The itchy and scratchy show

Hey good lookin, whatcha got cookin This morning, I went to get Corbin after he woke up from his nap. He was laying face down (he does that a lot...he really likes to sleep with his face totally smashed into the sheet) and playing with his ear. I didn't think anything of it, until I got closer and saw the he had scratched his ear until it was bleeding (and please note, he was not crying or fussing). And he isn't acting sick, so he doesn't have a ear infection. I guess it just really itched. Kind of funny. Uh oh. Look who has figured out how to open the cupboards. I need to go and buy some of those lock thingies.

I love these shoes!

Today I went to a consignment sale with a friend from the ward. They didn't have a ton of good deals, but I found some fun stuff. After that, we went to the Carters outlet store, and I got Corbin the cutest shoes for only $1.99. I seriously love them.

so tough

Here are some pictures of Corbin's latest trick. He is still pretty unsteady and I think he falls and hits his head at least once a day. Yesterday he fell 4 or 5 times. Poor kid. I can't believe how fast he is growing and learning.

I seriously love this piano toy thing. Corbin never gets sick of playing with it.
What's that smell?

Home

Well, we are all done house-sitting. It is so nice to be back home, even though it is still a big mess because the floors aren't completely installed yet. When we walked in the front door, Corbin saw Izzy and he burst out laughing. He was so excited to see her. It was the cutest thing!
