kidney

I took Corbin in today for an ultrasound on his left kidney. It was just to double check how things are looking since his surgery 14 months ago (go here to read more about that). The good news from the ultrasound is that Corbin's kidney shows no reflux. The bad news is that we did see some swelling in the kidney. The doctor showed me the ultrasound pictures from the last 3 years. It was no where near as much swelling as when he first went to the urologist at 9 months old. However, after 9 months, the swelling had gone away and so we thought that problem had solved itself over time. But now it looks to be back, but so far on a much smaller scale. This swelling would most likely be caused by a kink in the ureter.

Now, the next step is for Corbin to have another test done to see if is a kink somewhere. If no kink is found, and everything is running smoothly, then that will be the end of it. However, if they do find a problem, then the doctor will perform surgery right then and there to correct the problem (because Corbin would already be under anesthesia for the test).
So that is where we stand right now. The test (and possible surgery) is scheduled for the beginning of March. I hope for Corbin's sake that he does not have to have surgery, it will be terrible to see him in pain. Poor kid. Hopefully this will be the last test or surgery. I think Corbin deserves a nice long break from medical procedures.
